On Saiua I focus mostly on things for homes, but today I have found an interesting project that I can say is the largest public living-room, and a great place to visit if you are in Switzerland. City Lounge is an outdoor space in the center of St. Gallen, Switzerland, that has been designed by Carlos Martinez in collaboration with Pipilotti Rist and it was the winning entry at a design competition announced by the Schweizer Verbandes der Raiffeisenbanken (SVRB) and the city of St. Gallen. The project features a bright red surfacing that arise to have swept in like the tide, protecting everything in its path. At night, the streets are illuminated by blimp-shaped objects that hang from cables strung between the district’s contemporary office buildings.

Yes, shabby chic styles are largely dominated by white, and if you find the color too boring, maybe this is not the style for you. But that does not mean color is shunned completely in every case. In fact, we completely love shabby chic living areas that feature a hint of color, as they smash up the visual monotony of various shades of white and give it a more exciting appeal. It is pastel colors that are the preferred choice in shabby chic surroundings, with the likes of cool blue, gentle pink and light mint green giving the room a refreshing vibe.

It is the distinctively formed cured doors of the living space units that draw your notice instantly here, with each modular element flowing into the next effortlessly. Like any other living space series from Scavolini, the finishes and hues on offer are seemingly endless, but it’s the form and structural brilliance of these wall-mounted components that really steal the spotlight. With a sliding system becoming the trademark feature of the range, one can see how these flexible shelves and cabinets can connect visually with kitchen and dining room configurations.

Using the living room divider to add a wonderful display or even additional storage alternatives is a great way to make the most of the available space in your small urban apartment or modest modern home. The idea here is to separate the living room from the kitchen or dining area next to it without disturbing the style of each of the rooms and allowing for an easy switch between both spaces. A combination of closed units for the base and open shelves at the top is a practical choice that allows for the unobstructed flow of light and a visual relation among the living area and the rooms next to it.
